Calvin Kattar Grateful For Big Fight Coming Off Knee Injury

Las Vegas – UFC featherweight Calvin Kattar gets a tough matchup in his return from knee surgery when he faces Aljamain Sterling at UFC 300 on Saturday night.

“Just grateful. Grateful for the opportunity. It’s been 18 months and excited to get back in there,” Kattar told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.

Kattar (23-7) has been out since suffering a knee injury in a fight against Arnold Allen in late 2022. His return happened to coincide with UFC 300 and a matchup with Sterling.

“I was excited when they were coming to Boston in August although I know that had been 8 months post-op, but it’s a good way to just jump start the comeback. Things workout the way they do for a reason and I feel the timing is right for UFC 300 such a historic card,” he said.

“It’s an honor to be a part of it.”

There won’t be much time for a warm up when he gets in there against former bantamweight champion Sterling. Gettin

“Big opportunity fighting a former champ. If you want to be great, and you want big moment opportunities, those are the guys you got to compete against. I’m grateful I have another opportunity to step in there against a high level opponent,” he said.

“And show why I’m amongst one of the best in the division.”
