Consider UFC Vegas 90 the forgotten middle child of the MMA powerhouse.
Just one week ago, the promotion returned to the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, putting on a show that featured a number of high-profile finishes, plus the return of Rose Namajunas to the win column (while picking up her first victory as a flyweight). Next week, meanwhile, the biggest UFC event in years arrives: UFC 300. A landmark show with a number of big names and former champs that will take the lion’s share of the attention this month.
And then there’s UFC Vegas 90, the forgotten card. Few big names, just one former champ (a trivia question champ at that, with Germaine de Randamie often overlooked as the UFC’s inaugural women’s 145lb champion). The main event sees Brendan Allen and Chris Curtis run it back; even that fight was a second choice, with Allen originally paired up with Marvin Vettori.
Will the event punch above its weight and deliver? Hopefully so, and these types of cards often do.
