Nate Landwehr: UFC Atlantic City Bout with Emmers “Better for the Fans” Than Sabatini

Atlantic City, NJ — After a brief break from MMA for the birth of his son, Nate Landwehr returns to action at UFC Atlantic City, taking on a short-notice opponent in Jamall Emmers, who is stepping in for Pat Sabatini.

Landwehr had been flirting with the featherweight top 15, and has already won over a good chunk of the UFC faithful. It’s easy to see why.

“Coming off a loss makes you really hungry for that next victory,” Landwehr exclaimed during Wednesday’s UFC Atlantic City media day, speaking with media outlets including Cageside Press. “Saturday night, it’s going to go down.”

While Landwehr (15-1) is looking to bounce back from a loss to Dan Ige, he’s not dwelling on the past, and even channeled a little bit of featherweight great Max Holloway in his response to the setback.

“It is what it is. I try not to look back on the wins and losses. He got me. Move on, I’m about to get the next one.”

Asked about the original match-up with Pat Sabatini, Landwehr called the fight with Emmers “better for the fans,” suggesting the original fight with Sabatini “would have been a little bit less exciting. I think this will be a good, exciting fight for the fans to see.”

Landwehr later explained to Cageside Press just why he feels the new match-up is an upgrade in terms of excitement.

“I just feel like Emmers is more of a, you know, he’s going to come out, we’re going to strike. I think Pat would have been desperate for the takedown immediately, there would have been a lot of wrestling. His game plan would be take me down, try to hold me there.”

“I’m not saying that Jamall Emmers is not going to try to take me down and hold me down,” he added. “But likelihood is, you’re going to see some great exchanges.”

Landwehr also seems to be over the Sabatini booking already, and isn’t really interested in getting it back. “I would like to skip over all that and go straight to something better, if I’m being honest.”
