Atlantic City – It’s title shot or bust for UFC flyweight Erin Blanchfield who plans to fight for the title with a victory over Manon Fiorot at UFC Atlantic City on Saturday night.
“I’m #2 she’s #3. The only two girls ahead of us (are) the girls that have been fighting for the title. So when I win Saturday I feel like I’m definitely a lock for the title,” Blanchfield told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
Blanchfield (12-1) has been considered to be on the short list of title contenders for a while now. Even with being passed over for a championship fight she remains steadfast that she’s next.
“I think you could definitely argue this is like my third number one contender fight. I’m just gaining experience every time. I’m 24-years-old fighting super tough girls,” she said.
“I feel like I’m getting so much better from it. When I do get that title shot and win that championship I’ll definitely be a champ.”
Standing in front of her is Fiorot who herself feels like she’s earned a title shot twice over.
“Everybody in the top 5 is obviously very talented. Our records are very similar,” Blanchfield said.
“She’s long and rangy. I’ve had months to strategize for that, and I feel super prepared for this fight. I’m excited to show it off Saturday.”
