Coming off back-to-back wins inside the octagon for the first time in his UFC career, Steve Garcia took on Melquizael Costa at UFC Vegas 83 on Saturday.

The lightweight fight saw Costa, 1-1 in the promotion, looking for a second straight win of his own.

Early in the fight, Melquizael Costa took control of the back, threatening to mount. When Garcia briefly dropped to his knees, Costa did mount, but not for long as Garcia quickly got back up. Costa continued putting the pressure on for several minutes, at times again threatening to climb up Garcia’s back. Garcia fought hands, and got right back up from a mat return. What he could not do was get Costa off of him, or get his own offense going.

Round two started much differently, with Garcia coming out swinging, drawing Costa into a firefight! Costa went down, with Garcia all over him, raining down punches as Costa covered up. Somehow, despite bleeding like a stuck pig, Costa survived. But Garcia then switched to a choke attempt, and when that failed, got back on top and began battering Costa further. Garcia was fired up after the TKO win, which would have come sooner had Costa not been as tough as he was.

Official Result: Steve Garcia def. Melquizael Costa by TKO, Round 2, 1:01
