A popular pick for a post-fight bonus at UFC 295 arrived on the main card, as hard-hitting lightweights Matt Frevola and Benoit Saint-Denis facing off.

Frevola, hailing from nearby Long Island, would no doubt have the fans at Madison Square Garden on his side, but either man was capable of finding the finish.

With the crowd hot, Benoit Saint-Denis managed to take some wind out of their sails by landing an early takedown. But Frevola was quickly back up and landed a slam takedown of his own, before they went back to distance. And then, in a heartbeat, the fight was over, as Saint-Denis uncorked a head kick that floored Matt Frevola!

Frevola was actually backpedaling as the kick connected, and the impact was still enough to drop him and open up a nasty cut. Saint-Denis dove in to finish up, but the ref was quickly on the scene to make the save! Another impressive performance from France’s Benoit Saint-Denis.

After the win, Saint-Denis spoke about serving his country, on a day that marked a national holiday in Veteran’s Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day elsewhere.

“I’m going to catch everybody. I’m going for everybody in the lightweight division,” BSD later added in his post-fight interview. Among the names he’d like moving forward was Mateusz Gamrot.

Official Result: Benoit Saint-Denis def. Matt Frevola by knockout (head kick), Round 1, 1:31
