UFC 295: Loopy Godinez “Living the Dream” with Active Schedule

New York, NY — Loopy Godinez had just over a week following her win over Elise Reed in September when she got the call to fight Tabatha Ricci at UFC 295.

It’s another short turnaround for a fighter who has made a career out of them. And once again, Godinez (11-3) said yes, despite barely setting foot back home in Canada before turning around and starting training camp in Mexico.

It’s because of that willingness to fight that Loopy Godinez keeps getting the call from the promotion. “They call me because they know I’m always ready. Even when I did back-to-back fights, I was on vacation for the first time in so many years, in so long. And halfway through, not even, I was two days into my vacation with my sister and everybody in Florida actually— it was like ‘hey can you come back and fight?'”

Godinez recalls saying “no problem” and booking a flight to return the next day, cutting her vacation short. Much like she said yes to the UFC 295 match-up with Ricci.

“I just don’t see other fighters— It’s not easy to do what I do,” said Godinez, asked about being the only half of her fight to be booked for media day. At the same time, she added that “it’s really easy for me to do those type of things. I don’t know what it is, I just do it. And I just go with the flow, and it’s easy. I don’t feel overwhelmed at all, I enjoy the process, I love all this, I love to talk to you guys. I’m living the dream very much.”

On the match-up with Ricci, a fellow former LFA fighter, Godinez noted that she had her eye on her opponent back in the day. More recently, her coaches had scouted Ricci. “Actually my coaches were watching her fight after my last fight. Because they kind of thought ‘oh I think she’s next.’ So we were already ahead of the game.”

“She has great judo and great jiu-jitsu, but I have great wrestling, I have great hands, I have a lot of hands. I feel it’s a great match-up for Saturday night.”
