“I’ll Take Her and Her Money”: Nora Cornolle Downplays Concern Over Edwards’ Weight Ahead of UFC Paris

Paris, France — French bantamweight Nora Cornolle makes her octagon debut at UFC Paris, where she’s been booked opposite the streaking Joselyne Edwards.

Cornolle (6-1) is well aware of Edwards’ history of struggling to make weight. The Panamanian is a former featherweight who has come in heavy for her last two fights at 135lbs, but Cornolle is ready to roll regardless.

“She can be 70 kilos, I don’t care,” Cornolle told media outlets including Cageside Press during Wednesday’s UFC Paris media day. “I’ll take her and her money.”

Later, the 33-year old newcomer, who noted it was one of her goals to make it to the UFC, spoke of the pressure ahead of her debut.

“To be honest, I don’t know, I think we have the same pressure, but as you say different stuff. But the pressure is kind of equal, but maybe it’s more on her. I’m here, my debut, I have as you say nothing and everything to prove. So she knows can’t mess up, so I think it’s a lot of pressure on her.”

Thus far in her fighting career, Nora Cornolle has stayed busy. This year alone, she’s fought (and come out victorious) on three separate occasions. Saturday against Edwards will mark fight number four in 2023.

“I like to be active, but I have to be smart about it,” she said when asked about continuing that pace. “It’s like, you can do that when you start fighting because, girls were not beginners, because in January she was 12-10, but I have to pay attention and be smart in my choices. I can’t do that in UFC because they’re all like super-experienced fighters. It’s a lot of different styles. It can work if it’s three strikers in a row or three wrestlers in a row, because it will be the same fight camp kind of, but I don’t think it would be realistic to say I can do that same.”

But, added Nornolle, “I really want to fight the quickest I can. I’m just born to train and born to fight. So that’s what I want.”
