One man’s bad news can be another man’s big break.

UFC flyweight Kai Kara-France announced early Monday morning on his social media that he had to withdraw from his fight against Manel Kape at UFC 293 due to a concussion he suffered recently.

The withdrawal continues a long streak of bad luck for Kape as it marks a third consecutive fight cancelation, or it would have, had another flyweight set for Dana White’s Contender Series not been available to fight.

Felipe dos Santos was set to take on Luciano Pereira at DWCS on Tuesday night, but had his fight canceled. That opened the door for dos Santos to get a big first fight in the promotion against one of the rising stars at 125-pounds.

MMA Fighting was the first to report the news.

dos Santos (7-0) will go into UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia, having not fought since last November. He’ll get the #10 ranked flyweight in the world for his first UFC fight.

Kape (18-6) comes into UFC 293 against dos Santos having not fought since last Dec when he took a decision victory over David Dvorak. He’s had three fights fall out since then with canceled bouts against Alex Perez, Deiveson Figueiredo and now Kara-France.
