After coming up short at UFC 289, Miranda Maverick is making a quick turnaround for her next fight.

With Joanne Wood out of a fight with Priscila Cachoeira (12-4) at UFC 291 later this month, it’s Maverick (11-5) stepping up to save the day.

Cageside Press confirmed the booking following a recent report by MMA Fighting.

While the reason behind Wood withdrawing from the bout has not been disclosed, the popular Scottish flyweight took to social media saying she was “gutted” by the news.

“Gutted to find out that I won’t be fighting July 29th. It is what it is and I’m going to try not dwell on this as it was out of my control. I invested and done everything I could and was ready for what was maybe going to be my last fight. I loved the extra altitude training that I went all in on to make sure I was best prepared and was feeling great with no injuries. If only fight camps went on your record (and you got paid for them ) I’m pretty sure I’m in the triple digits by now.”

Maverick was last seen in action at UFC 289 in Vancouver last month, where she was soundly beaten by Canadian Jasmine Jasudavicius. The loss cost Maverick her spot in the UFC women’s flyweight top 15, to add insult to injury. It also snapped a two-fight win streak for “Fear the” Maverick.

Cachoeira has won her last two fights, scoring victories against Ariane Lipski and Ji-yeon Kim.

UFC 291 is headlined by the “BMF” title fight between lightweights Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, meeting for the second time. The event takes place on July 29, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The following fights are expected to be featured:
