UFC Charlotte’s Ian Garry Promises Submission Next: “I Want to Show the World What I’ve Got.”

Charlotte, NC — At UFC Charlotte, Ian Garry improved his unbeaten record to 12-0 in professional MMA and 5-0 with the UFC with his first-round finish of Daniel Rodriguez.

“If you look at my Instagram, I’ve posted two photos this week,” recalled Garry, speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press following the event. “One was me working the body kick and the other was saying practice makes permanent. And that head kick landed tonight, and it was perfect,” Garry explained, revealing some of his mentality during UFC Charlotte’s fight week.

“Well D-Rod has never been knocked out right? I’m pretty sure that’s the first time he’s been knocked out,” said Ian Garry, smiling and acknowledging his skillful handywork.

Rodriguez had never been finished via strikes in his entire 20 fight professional MMA career dating back to 2015.

When asked about his post-fight call out of #11 welterweight veteran Neil Magny, Garry talked about how Magny had already faced the who’s who of 170lbs. Like D-Rod, Shavkat Rakhmonov and Gilbert Burns, “I want to face someone who’s faced that talent. I want to see what he brings. I know he’s long, he’s tall, he’s rangy, he’s awkward. I know he likes to mix it up and get dirty.”

When asked for an early prediction on how the fight with Magny would play out Garry predicted, “I’d probably say it’ll be a submission and I want that; I want him to take me down. I want to show the world what I’ve got.” Ian said as the martial artist has been intentional about gaining more knowledge as of late, in the different martial arts.”

“I’m going to Brazil in two weeks, I have a one-way ticket. I don’t know when I’m coming back. But don’t you think that my Brazilian jiu-jitsu is going to improve when I’m in the heart of Brazil?” Garry added. Lately, the Irish welterweight has seemingly embraced the nomadic lifestyle of travelling, fully immersing himself with a martial art and the cultures that formed it. Which could make him even more dangerous.
