UFC 287: Santiago Ponzinibbio Looking To ‘Smash’ Holland, Talks Losses

Miami, FL – Nobody has ever accused UFC welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio of being a boring fighter, and he gets a willing dance partner in Kevin Holland at UFC 287 on Saturday night.

“I don’t care what is he going to do brother, he going to stand in front of me, I’m going to punch his face. I don’t care if he try to take me down. I’m ready for everything,” Ponzinibbio told reporters on Wednesday.

“I’m ready to smash this guy. I don’t care what he’s going to say or what he’s going to do. My plans are the same.”

Ponzinibbio (29-6) reiterated over and over again that what Holland wants to do doesn’t matter to him. It’s all about what he’s going to do to Holland.

Ponzinibbio comes into UFC 287 having finished Alex Morono via TKO at UFC 282 which snapped a two-fight losing streak. The losses are what sticks in his mind as he dropped two consecutive fights via split-decision.

“I never in my career lose two fights in a row. And this time two losses in a row, but both two split-decisions. A lot of people (thought) I won, and I (thought) I won. Specially the Michel Pereira (fight) you know. For sure it’s a lot of pressure when I (got) to Morono. (I) changed everything in the last minute,” Ponzinibbio said.

With Holland he sees a well-rounded fighter, but still wasn’t at all worried about what his opponent will try to do on Saturday.

“Brother I don’t care what my opponent’s going to do. I know him. He can punch, he can kick, he can have good submissions. He’s coming improved in every fight. Good fighter, but the end of the day I don’t care much about what my opponent’s going to do,” he said.

“My plan is always the same. Go inside to the cage, go forward, and punch in the face.”
