The UFC’s May 20, 2023 Fight Night event has added a pair of lightweight veterans to the mix.
Michael Johnson (21-18) will face Carlos Diego Ferreira (17-5) at the event, which does not yet have a venue, location, or broadcast plan officially announced.
Alex Behunin was first to report news of the booking. Johnson later confirmed the date on social media. “What a good morning to be alive!! May 20th here we come!!” Johnson wrote in response to the news.
“The Menace” has been trading wins and losses of late, and is 2-1 in his last three fights. That stretch has seen him pick of victories over Alan Patrick and Marc Diakiese, while losing a split decision opposite Jamie Mullarkey.
That’s much improved from the four-fight skid Michael Johnson found himself on from 2019 to 2021.
Ferreira has lost three straight, and has not competed since December of 2021, when he fell to current contender Mateusz Gamrot. Prior to that, the Brazilian had suffered defeat at the hands of Gregor Gillespie and Beneil Dariush.
A scheduled bout with Drakkar Klose fell through last July, with Ferreira forced to withdraw due to injury.
The UFC’s May 20, 2023 Fight Night event currently features the following reported match-ups:
