The UFC featherweight title unification bout between champion Alexander Volkanovski and interim champion Yair Rodriguez is being targeted for UFC 290 to cap off International Fight Week on July 8.

News of the match-up was first reported by Fox Sports Australia.

The UFC look to build a blockbuster International Fight Week card that includes Volkanovski and Rodriguez. No word on if will headline or co-headline the event as it is the first bout reported for UFC 290.

Volkanovski (25-2) is coming off his first loss in 10 years after he dropped a decision to Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 where he lost his bid to become a two-division champion. Volkanovski holds three victories over former champion Max Holloway, and wins over names such as Jose Aldo, Brian Ortega, and Chad Mendes.

Rodriguez (15-3) defeated Josh Emmett at UFC 284 to earn the interim featherweight title. Rodriguez has beaten the likes of Ortega, Jeremy Stephens, B.J. Penn and Dan Hooker.

UFC 290 is set to take place on July 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV to cap off the promotion’s annual International Fight Week. Events for fans will take place throughout the week ending with a PPV card that Saturday.

Outside of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez, no other bouts have been announced for UFC 290 as of this posting.
