Mike Malott Was On “Roller Coaster” of Emotions Ahead of UFC Vegas 70

Las Vegas, NV — Canadian Mike Malott came away from UFC Vegas 70 with an impressive submission win over Yohan Lainesse — and admitted after the fight to going through some ups and downs emotionally.

“I feel great. This sport’s such a f*cking roller coaster,” Malott told media outlets including Cageside Press backstage at the UFC Apex on Saturday. “I felt bulletproof all week, and then there was like a few hours this morning where it just f*cking sucked. Like, ‘why do I do this?’ and then like an hour later, you’re like ‘I don’t think anybody in the world can beat me.'”

“It’s just back and forth, like a f*cking annoying roommate in your head, just swinging all over the place,” added the Niagara Top Team welterweight. “I’m like ‘can I just have some consistency in my head?’

By the time Malott started warming up, however, he felt in control. “I felt controlled, I felt calm, I felt sharp. This is the loosest I’ve ever felt, it’s the most relaxed I’ve ever felt.” By the time he started hitting mitts, said Malott, he felt “for sure the sharpest I’ve ever been. I’m the sharpest I’ve ever been right now, I feel really good.”

He looked sharp in the fight, submitting Lainesse inside of a round — then called for the UFC to return to Canada. That got UFC President Dana White’s attention, who said following the fight that Malott “looked incredible.”

He also said that the promotion would get back to Canada soon, which should be music to “Proper” Mike Malott’s ears.
