UFC Vegas 67 this Saturday marks the first card of the new year for the world’s largest MMA promotion. The focus out of the gate is on the newcomers, and four guys are making their debut. One of those is Nick Fiore. It was supposed to be Omar Morales fighting Mateusz Rebecki, but you know how it goes. Morales had to pull out and in comes Fiore on short notice.

How will Fiore fare in the UFC:

I absolutely do not understand the Nick Fiore signing. The MMA scene is New England is completely awful, at least judging by this. Fiore’s first two fights were against Jay Ellis, back-to-back, who was 15-91 and 15-98 when they fought. Yes, Ellis fought seven times in roughly 18 months between their two fights, and lost all of them.

Fiore has only fought one opponent with a winning record. Minus the Jay Ellis fights his opponents had a combined record of 31-45. If you want to add the 91 (and then 98) losses, well… Frankly Fiore fought better competition as an amateur than he has as a pro.

What Fiore does well is grappling. He’s not a high-level grappler but a decent regional grappler. He’s been one-dimensional, however. Any stand-up has been nonexistent and even his wrestling isn’t great. Fiore is going to struggle to secure takedowns in the UFC.

Even if he was to get the fight to the mat I’m not sold on his level of grappling to be much of a big threat. He is with the New England Cartel, alongside the likes of Calvin Kattar and Rob Font, which likely landed him this fight.

How he matches up against Rebecki:

Honestly, to book Fiore in his debut against Rebecki is criminal. Clearly, his management isn’t doing him any favors. Fiore is a decent grappler and Rebecki is an actual legit high-level grappler. ADCC experience and multiple gold medals so Fiore doesn’t stand a chance where he wants the fight the most. Rebecki isn’t a great striker but has power and can easily outgun lesser experienced guys like Fiore. In every inch of the fighting spectrum, I think Rebecki is miles ahead. I would even be surprised if Fiore won a minute of the fight.
