Former UFC bantamweight Talita Bernardo earned her second win under the Invicta FC banner on Wednesday night, and third straight overall.
She also earned a title shot with a submission of Katharina Lehner at Invicta FC 50 in Denver, Colorado.
Undefeated since parting ways with the UFC following a loss to Viviane Araujo in 2019, Bernardo (9-4) was advised of her shot at gold in the cage at ReelWorks, Denver following Wednesday night’s co-main event win. She’ll meet Taneisha Tennant on January 18, 2023 at the very same venue.
No other fights have been revealed for the previously unannounced event.
Bernardo went 1-3 during her UFC run, which lasted from 2017 to 2019. Her lone win came over Canadian Sarah Moras. Bernardo’s three losses have aged better than most, however, coming against Araujo, bantamweight contender Irene Aldana, and veteran Marion Reneau.
Prior to her UFC stint, Bernardo had gone 5-1 on the regional circuit, fighting mostly in her native Brazil.
Tennant (5-1), 33, was a surprise winner of Invicta FC’s one-night Phoenix Series 3 bantamweight tournament in 2020. That led to a spot on Dana White’s Contender Series later that year, at featherweight.
Tennant came up short against boxer Danyelle Wolf in the bout.
Returning to the Invicta cage last year, Tennant defeated Lisa Verzosa to capture the then-vacant 135lb title. She followed that up earlier this year with a successful title defense, winning a split decision against Olga Rubin.
