UFC San Diego: Azamat Murzakanov Wants Winner Of Cutelaba vs. Walker, Ready For Top 15

San Diego, CA – UFC light heavyweight Azamat Murzakanov retained his undefeated record when he defeated Devin Clark at UFC San Diego on Saturday night.

“Thank you so much and I’m really happy. Emotions are I feel like overall very satisfied,” Murzakanov told Cageside Press among other media through a translator at his post-fight scrum.

The fight started off with a pretty slow pace with both fighters seemingly feeling each other out before the action picked up in the second round.

“Inside the cage I was just feeling him out in the first round. I wasn’t rushing even I hurt him a couple times, but I wasn’t rushing. I was thinking second round, towards the end of the second round, I would push the pace,” Murzakanov said.

“I always try to stay focused. At the end of the first round I unexpectedly got hit with a kick. He threw a kick and kind of got me back and reset me to get back on my focus.”

With Murzakanov finishing his second fight of 2022 many believe he’s ready to compete with the top of the light heavyweight division.

“Even though I have 12 fights in professional MMA, but I have huge amateur career. I don’t really want to wait and wait. I’m ready to go to the top immediately. I’m ready to fight the best of the best,” he said.

With that Murzakanov called his shot.

“You know I had my eye on one guy, but he got booked right now. I just saw he got booked, he’s fighting, so we’ll see (how) his performance is and we’ll talk about it after his performance,” he said.

“Ion Cutelaba it is. You know I fought him in amateurs and I beat him. I wanted to give him a chance for rematch as a pro in UFC. So let’s go Ion Cutelaba.”

Cutelaba is currently set to face Johnny Walker at UFC 279 in Las Vegas on Sept.10

“I think he will win. Actually I want to fight the winner of this bout. Johnny Walker or Ion Cutelaba,” he said.

“But you know, if Ion Cutelaba loses in this fight, it’s not going to really be that interesting for me to fight him. I think he will win.”
