Macy Chiasson is headed back to bantamweight for her next fight, which will come against Irene Aldana at UFC 279 this September.
Aldana (13-6) will face Chiasson (8-2) on September 10, 2022 as part of UFC 279, at a venue and location yet to be announced. ESPN Deportes was first to report the news on Thursday, with Chiasson subsequently confirming the match-up on social media.
Chiasson was last seen fighting at featherweight, picking up a split decision win over Norma Dumont at UFC 274. While the TUF 28 winner made a bit of noise by saying she was ready to fight Amanda Nunes for the 145lb title, with “The Lioness” set to rematch Julianna Pena at UFC 277 next month, it’s back to bantamweight instead.
Winner of The Ultimate Fighter 28 as a featherweight in 2018, Chiasson immediately dropped to 135lbs, and is 6-2 in the UFC overall. That record is split right down the middle, as the Louisiana native is 3-1 in both divisions.
Aldana has not fought since July of 2021, when she scored a TKO finish of former Invicta FC champ Yana Kunitskaya. The Mexican is 3-1 in her last four, with the lone loss coming against Holly Holm.
While she did bounce back from the Holm loss against Kunitskaya, Aldana missed weight for the bout. She was expected to return against Germaine de Randamie last September, then against Aspen Ladd at UFC 273 in April, but was forced out of both match-ups.
A bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and T.J. Dillashaw has been linked to UFC 279, however, Sterling would later state that he was not signing the bout agreement until the matter of compensation had been worked out.
