UFC 275’s Glover Teixeira: Age is Just a Number

UFC light heavyweight champ Glover Teixeira has been a betting underdog in his last three fights.

In all of those fights, the Brazilian veteran has earned stoppage victories. Including the one that saw him crowned as the undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. At 42 years young, Teixeria has just been trudging forward, fighting the best fighters on the face of the planet, and putting them all away with style points.

A lot of people get caught up in the age of fighters, when in actuality, it’s far more about mileage more than anything else. Teixeria is actually up there in both categories, but the guy is performing better than he ever has. There’s no doubt that he doesn’t have the same quickness as he did in his younger years, but skill wise he’s never been better, with no signs of diminished durability.

The more we move through this fight week, ahead of UFC 275 in Singapore, the more Teixeria’s confidence seems to be growing. The light heavyweight champion is in extremely tough territory against challenger Jiri Prochaza, but all indications are that, win or lose, there’s plenty of runway left for Glover Teixeria’s career should he decide to continue down that path.
