A match-up between ranked UFC welterweights Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal is being targeted for August.

Luque (21-8-1) and Neal (14-4) are primed to face off at the UFC’s August 6, 2022 Fight Night event. Cageside Press confirmed the news following an initial report by ESPN on Thursday. The early-August card has not been officially announced by the promotion, but is expected to be headlined by light heavyweights Thiago Santos and Jamahal Hill.

Vicente Luque is currently ranked #6 in the division; Neal clocks in at #12.

Luque recently had a four-fight winning streak snapped when he ran into fellow top contender Belal Muhammad. Prior to that, he had gotten past names including Michael Chiesa and former 170 pound champ Tyron Woodley.

Neal split a pair of fights in 2021, losing a decision to Neil Magny, then bouncing back with a split decision win over Santiago Ponzinibbio in December to close out his year. Neal, a 2017 Contender Series winner, had started his UFC run on a five-fight win streak, before dropping back-to-back bouts against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and Magny.

The UFC’s August 6, 2022 Fight Night show does not yet have a venue, location, or broadcast plan announced. The following match-ups have been reported for the card:

  • Thiago Santos vs. Jamahal Hill
  • Miranda Granger vs. Cory McKenna
  • Vicente Luque vs. Geoff Neal
