Cat Zingano vs. Pam Sorenson was supposed to go down back in March, only for the fight to fall through on short notice.
Now, the women’s featherweight pair have been lined up once again, with Bellator 282 on June 24, 2022 being the goal. A source familiar with the situation confirmed to Cageside Press on Tuesday that the June 24 date was being targeted by the promotion, after Zingano let the news slip in an interview with The Schmo.
It will be Zingano’s third fight for Bellator, after making her debut in 2020. She’s now 2-0 since leaving the UFC, winning a decision against Gabby Holloway, then submitting Olivia Parker last year.
Many had expected Zingano (12-4) to be next in line for a shot at Cris Cyborg, who instead faced Arlene Blencowe at Bellator 279 last month. Should “Alpha” Cat win in June, it’s likely the title fight will present itself.
Sorenson (9-4), a former Invicta FC featherweight champ who claimed bantamweight gold in King of the Cage early in her career, is 1-1 through two fights in Bellator MMA. She dropped her last bout to Blencowe, losing a unanimous decision last November.
Bellator 282 is set to go down at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on June 24. The card is headlined by a middleweight title fight, as Gegard Mousasi looks to defend against Johnny Eblen. The following bouts have been reported for the event:
-
- Gegard Mousasi vs. Johnny Eblen
- Magomed Magomedov vs. Enrique Barzola
- Leandro Higo vs. Danny Sabatello
- Alejandra Lara vs. Ilara Joanne
- Aaron Jeffery and Fabio Aguiar
- Sabah Homasi vs. Maycon Mendonca
