For Terrance McKinney, Even On Short Notice: “Losing Is Not An Option”

Las Vegas, NV – In combat sports there are a few reasons to finish a fight quickly and without taking much damage. One of those reasons is that you can take a quick turnaround fight when someone else drops out of theirs. UFC lightweight Terrance McKinney is taking advantage of an opportunity just like that.

McKinney (12-3) faces Drew Dober at UFC Vegas 50 on Saturday night at the UFC APEX. He takes the spot from Ricky Glenn who withdrew from the fight against Dober.

“So I was about to hit them up and soon as you know I’m already getting a call myself. They’re like ‘Yo you want to fight Drew Dober?’ I was like ‘Yeah, but let’s get a new contract, how about that?’ After that it was a no-brainer and I’m so grateful to be here,” McKinney said at media day on Wednesday.

McKinney’s last two bouts ended in the first round with the lightweight taking very little damage leaving him prepared to take on a short notice fight against a veteran like Dober. Even then there was no hesitation to take the fight, but he did want a new contract before he accepted the fight.

“They were down. They know this is a veteran and he’s as tough as they come. I gotta get paid to fight a beast like that. This dude is an assassin, he’s a beast, greek god. Yoked, pretty boy, Jersey Shore. I’m excited to mix it up with him. I think we’re both explosive, powerful people, and it’s got fight of the night written all over it.”

When taking a short-notice fight against a guy like Dober it would be easy for a fighter to have built in excuses when it comes to the result should it not go their way. Not for McKinney.

“I have to win every time because this is a moment of a lifetime and I told you guys what goals I have. God’s given me a chance to do it even quicker so it was a no-brainer for me. Losing is not an option because I’m fighting for my fans, I’m fighting for my family, I’m fighting for my teammates that put their bodies and sacrifice for me during the camp. This is for all of them.”
