UFC Vegas 48 took place Saturday, February 19, with a late notice main event switch landing Jamahal Hill and Johnny Walker as the main event. It turned out to be a fight which absolutely delivered from the Apex Saturday night. In the co-main event, we got a literal last second submission by Kyle Daukaus. Here’s what’s next for the winning side of the main card.

Jamahal Hill

In Jamahal Hill’s first main event with the UFC, he delivered in a huge way. Hill finished a tough opponent in Johnny Walker in under three minutes with an absolute highlight reel finish. Hill continues to finish his opponents and only has one loss in his pro career which came in June of 2021 against a tough Paul Craig. I expect to see Jamahal Hill jump into the top 10 of the light heavyweight division after his huge victory Saturday night. With this huge win, I also expect him to get another fun top 10 match-up.

I’d like to see Volkan Oezdemir vs. Jamahal Hill. The experience and toughness of Oezdemir would make for a really entertaining bout in the emerging light heavyweight division

Hill’s next fight: Volkan Oezdemir

Kyle Daukaus

Kyle Daukaus secured a huge victory with a last second D’Arce choke submission on Saturday night. Daukaus has faced tough competition through his entire tenure with the UFC, and Saturday was no exception, although Jamie Pickett was stepping in on short notice. I think the fight that makes the most sense for “The D’Arce Knight” next is Julian Marquez. That is who Daukaus was supposed to fight before Marquez had to pull out of the bout.
Daukaus’s next fight: Julian Marquez

Parker Porter

After dropping his UFC debut via KO by Chris Daukaus, Porter has now put together three really nice decision victories with the promotion. With the majority of the heavyweight division lined up with fights, he’s going to have to wait to see how some of the fights pan out. Porter fighting the winner of Sergei Pavlovich and Shamil Abdurakhimov would make a lot of sense.

Porter’s next fight: Pavlovich/Abdurakhimov Winner.

Jim Miller

Through all the adversity this man has faced, Jim Miller is still getting it done in the UFC. Coming off two consecutive KO victories, Miller is showing he’s still here to bang.

Donald Cerrone and Joe Lauzon are two other UFC veterans set to fight in May. I’d love to see Miller get the winner of that bout to test himself against another one of the long time veterans. Perhaps we could see this fight sometime in the Summer.

Miller’s next fight: Cerrone/Lauzon Winner

Joaquin Buckley

In a very competitive fight, Joaquin Buckley was able to get a split decision victory Saturday night against Abdul Razak Alhassan. Buckley has now won four of his last five, three of which didn’t need the judges. Another fighter with wins in four of his last five in the UFC is Phil Dawes. Both guys are highly entertaining, and I’d expect a stand-up war.

Buckley’s next fight: Phil Hawes
