UFC 270: Could Drama Outside the Octagon Impact Ngannou’s Performance?

There is a lot being made of the video that emerged featuring Francis Ngannou supposedly snubbing former training partner Cyril Gane backstage at a fight a couple of months back. But the real drama heading into the UFC 270 main event is between the champion and the UFC.

The champ has publicly stated that he will not re-sign with the UFC unless certain conditions and provisions are made in his next contract, one of which is the freedom of being able to take boxing fights as well. For good reason. “The Predator” has caught the eye of boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury; a potential showdown between the two would likely be the biggest payday of Ngannou’s career. On top of that, the UFC heavyweight champion has also thrown out other statements about how much he will want to make for his next fights.

It remains to be seen if the out of the cage drama will affect Ngannou for better or for worse ahead of his showdown with Gane. But either way, stylistically this fight has all the makings of a dramatic finish. The slick technical kickboxing skills of Gane verses the ultra aggressive speed and power of Ngannou is bound to give fans what they’ve all come to see.
