Bellator 271’s Arlene Blencowe Dispels Retirement Talk: “Old Girls Rule Too”

Already ranked #1 in Bellator’s women’s featherweight division, Arlene Blencowe cemented her spot with a win over ex-Invicta FC champ Pam Sorenson at Bellator 271.

Blencowe went the distance, showing superior striking. And while she didn’t get to show how well-rounded she truly is, she came away happy with the win.

What’s next now becomes the question for the Australian, who came up short in title fights against both Julia Budd and Cris Cyborg.

“I am going to say what is not next, which is retirement,” Blencowe exclaimed following the fight. “Do you know how many times this week in interviews my age was mentioned? Okay, I’m like ‘I’m 38.’ As Coach Wink [Mike Winkeljohn] says, old guys rule, well old girls rule too. So retirement’s nowhere near on the horizon. I’m the number one in the division, there’s only up from here.”

Atop the card on Friday, Cris Cyborg made her third defense of the women’s featherweight title. With Blencowe having fallen to the Brazilian recently, a second fight between the two would be a hard sell. But as she noted, a lot of girls have been calling her out recently, and she’s up for any challenge.

“I’ll fight anyone, I love to fight, but for now though I’m heading home to Australia tomorrow.” Blencowe infamously hasn’t seen her friends or family for six months, so she’s planning a bit of family time. The plan, she said, is to “enjoy Christmas, and come back fresh and ready.”
