2. Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier/Conor McGregor
After an astounding 28 fights in the UFC, Charles Oliveira completed his journey to UFC gold in May. His stoppage of Michael Chandler joined his dominant performance against former interim champion Tony Ferguson to establish him as one of the best talents in all of mixed martial arts. Now at the top of the sport, his first title defense is expected to be a highly anticipated one as the MMA world waits to see if he can become the next dominant force at 155 pounds.
His opponent will be his most high profile to date. MMA superstar Conor McGregor could meet him in what would be one of the biggest events of the year. Of course, that is if he exacts revenge next month. Dustin Poirier is heavily favored to win and is seen by many as the heir apparent to the lightweight throne after a 6-1 run that has seen him stumble only against the now retired Khabib Nurmagomedov.
While it will have been an active year for both Poirier and McGregor, it is expected that the fight would take place at the end of 2021 should they come out of their trilogy bout healthy.
