UFC 263: Darren Stewart Says Light Heavyweight Not A Permanent Move

Phoenix, AZ — Darren Stewart vs. Eryk Anders II is going down this Saturday at UFC 263, but this time they are fighting at light heavyweight. While Stewart enjoys not being drained, it is not a permanent move, says the middleweight — even if he is victorious.

“I’m liking light heavyweight in the sense that of like, that I can get more fights in the year. So if it’s like light heavyweight or catchweight, call me up. I’m ready,” Stewart told Cageside Press during the UFC 263 media day on Wednesday. “Yeah, so, it’s not permanent, I’m still going to do middleweight, yeah know what I mean, it’s just like, that I need my body— my body needs a break.

“Like I said, you guys just see my walkout but, like I’m poker facing it, man. Trust me, I would like to drop on the floor depleted, but I don’t because I have heart. I’m from a strong family, and we got heart, so, you guys see me come out and perform- and think ‘Darren performed and he got the win’ but you ain’t really seen it yet, no one seen it yet. I’m fighting on low fuel, but I’m pushing through. I got heart, man.”

Darren went on to say that he wants to be called by the UFC for a catchweight or light heavyweight bout. If they want him at middleweight, he just wants enough time to cut the weight correctly.
