UFC matchmakers paired two of the heavyweight division’s powerhouses against each other at UFC Vegas 28. Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Augusto Sakai took centre stage inside the UFC Apex on Saturday night. Both heavyweights looked to connect hoping to deliver a devastating strike that would crumble their opponent.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik slipped out of the top five with a loss to Ciryl Gane earlier this year. But with power in his hands he remained a very dangerous athlete, and was looking to remind the MMA world that he is a contender and a staple in the UFC heavyweight division.

Augusto Sakai was looking to put his previous loss to Alistair Overeem behind him. Even though he was finished in the fifth round by Overeem, Sakai showed how tough and durable he  was. Breaking into the top five seemed like only a matter of time for the Brazilian, especially if he could secure a big win over Rozenstruik.

With the final seconds ticking off the clock in the opening round of the UFC Vegas 28 main event, Jairzinho Rozenstruik lunged in with a left hook and a right hand that dropped Sakai. He landed brutal hammer fists right before the horn was about to sound, picking up the TKO victory in the final second of round one.
