Loma Lookboonmee picked up a win over Sam Hughes after a hard-fought 15 minutes on the UFC Vegas 25 prelims.

Lookboonmee was coming off a dominant win over Jinh Yu Frey last time out and has made a name for herself as one of the more fun strikers at 115. Hughes, on the other hand, is looking for a win in her sophomore outing in the UFC, as her first fight was a first-round TKO loss to Tecia Torres last year.

Loma came outpatient early, reversing a takedown from Hughes and landing a head kick. Hughes soon shot in for another takedown that was reversed and landed with Loma on top, Loma landed some elbows from the top but Hughes made her way back to her feet and was once again looking for a takedown. Once again, Hughes was reversed and Loma ended up on top. Hughes got back up to her feet and Loma landed a hard body kick before Hughes shot in again, and the round ended with the two in the clinch.

Hughes shot in for a takedown to start round two and she actually got this one, however, Loma was up soon afterward and landing knees in the clinch. Hughes was able to reverse position and started landing some punches in the clinch, she was able to get some control time however failed to land a whole lot of successful strikes in the clinch or on the outside.

The third round was much of the first two rounds. Hughes seemed to be more willing to stand on the feet and landed some kicks to the body, however, Loma still evaded most of Hughes strikes and minimized much of the damage while still also defending most of Hughes takedown. Hughes needed a finish in the third and wasn’t able to get it.
