UFC 261: 20 Fights Into UFC Career, Alex Oliveira Is “Where Everybody In This Sport Wants to Be”

Jacksonville, FL — Brazil’s Cowboy, Alex Oliveira, enters UFC fight number twenty at UFC 261 this weekend.

While his back is arguably against the wall against Randy Brown on Saturday, thanks to a recent skid, Oliveira said during this week’s UFC 261 media day that “I’m already at a good place in the UFC. I fought a lot. I’m not ranked, but I’m still fighting the best in the world. At the end of the day, I’m happy.”

Being in the UFC, “I’m where everybody in this sport wants to be, so I can’t complain,” added “Cowboy” Oliveira. As to what he wants next, that remains a fight with a certain former champ, something Oliveira has been calling for for a while.

“Just got to get through the work that I have to do on Saturday, but I’m going to ask once again, I want to fight Robbie Lawler,” he stated. “Let’s see if this time around, with this win, he’s going to take it.”

The fight with Brown, meanwhile, had previously been scheduled for February. Brown was forced out due to COVID-19, and his replacement fell through as well. “I’m just happy that the fight is finally happening,” Oliveira said this week. “It’s going to be a good fight, I have all the respect for him. He’s a good opponent, he’s a well-known guy.”

In fact, Brown even introduced himself to Oliveira at the fighter hotel this week. “I really like the guy, I love his style, he’s really good as well. Whatever happens Saturday, we’re going to go in there, we’re going to beat the crap out of each other, put on a great fight, and afterward, we can be friends.”
