Bellator 255’s Jose Augusto Ready to Fight Next Week, If Necessary

Uncasville, CT — Light heavyweight Jose Augusto had a big night at Friday’s Bellator 255.

The Brazilian, a teammate of the Pitbull brothers, picked up a submission win in his promotional debut. The victory against Jonathan Wilson came via arm-triangle choke, on the same night teammate Patricio Pitbull was set to defend his 145lb title.

Speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press at the Mohegan Sun Arena following the fight, Augusto predicted more wins for Team Pitbull. “I know for a fact that this is the first win for our team, but there’s going to be two more coming,” he predicted.

Improving to 7-2 (1NC), Augusto looked sharp in the grappling department — and he noted that he has come a long way from when he started out in the sport. Much of that credit belongs to the Pitbull brothers, he added.

“When I first started in my hometown, I didn’t have a lot of people to train with. I didn’t really have a structure in my training,” recalled Augusto. The Brazilian turned pro in 2012, posting a 2-2 record in his first four fights. He’s now won five straight. “Ever since I went to the Pitbull brothers, I’ve been able to really evolve my game, and I owe a lot to them.”

As for what is next on the radar for Jose Augusto, “I would like to come back as quickly as possible,” the 29-year old stated. Even if it was next week, he added. “I’m not hurt, I’m ready to go.”
