“Sugar” Sean O’Malley has revealed the opponent and date for his next trip to the octagon.
On Tuesday, the bantamweight revealed via his official Youtube channel that he would be facing Thomas Almeida on March 27. That’s the date of UFC 260, the UFC’s second of two PPV events in the month of March.
O’Malley (12-1) will be looking to get back into the win column in the bout. After winning his first two fights of 2020, against Jose Quinonez and Eddie Wineland, the “Sugar Show” fighter found himself stopped by Marlon Vera last August at UFC 252. The defeat was the first of O’Malley’s 13-fight professional career.
In Almeida (22-4), O’Malley has drawn a fighter with twice the experience, and nearly ten years as a professional under his belt. However, the Brazilian has hit hard times of late, losing three straight bouts, including a memorable head kick knockout loss against Rob Font.
Almeida’s last fight, at featherweight, saw him lose a unanimous decision to Jonathan Martinez.
UFC 260 does not yet have an official location or venue announced. The PPV card currently has two title fights atop it: Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou 2, for the heavyweight championship, and Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega for the featherweight belt.
The event is expected to feature the following fights:
Stipe Miocic (c) vs. Francis Ngannou – For the UFC Heavyweight Championship
Alexander Volkanovski (c) vs. Brian Ortega – For the UFC Featherweight Championship
Jimmy Crute vs. Johnny Walker
Modestas Bukauskas vs. Michał Oleksiejczuk
Tyron Woodley vs. Vicente Luque
Jessica Penne vs. Hannah Goldy
Sean O’Malley vs. Thomas Almeida
