Tafon “Da Don” Nchukwi (4-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC)
Middleweight (185lbs): 0-0 (UFC), Making UFC and Career debut on December 19th
Light Heavyweight (205lbs) 1-0 (DWCS)
Heavyweight (265lbs): 3-0 (MMA)
Tafon Nchukwi stands at 6’0″ tall and has a 77′ reach. Nchukwi isn’t going to be a large middleweight in the UFC on paper, so it’s amazing just how much havoc he has wreaked in heavier weight classes on his way to the promotion.
Tafon has just four professional fights to his name and began his pro MMA career just last March.
Nchukwi made his pro MMA debut in the heavyweight division, weighing in at 235.3lbs. for the bout. Tafon ran through opponent Alex Meyers scoring a second round TKO while under the Cage Fury FC promotional banner.
Tafon again competed at heavyweight with his first round TKO of AT McCowin at Shogun Fights 23 in November of 2019. By this time, Tafon had trimmed his weight down to 223lbs. for the fight.
In what would be his last fight before his Contender Series bout earlier this year, Tafon took on undefeated future UFC fighter and DWCS alum William Knight. This fight was just 20 days after his fight with McCowin and took place at a catchweight of 225lbs. Nchukwi scored another first round TKO.
And in the 26 year olds’ most recent fight, he took on Al Matavao while on DWCS, in the light heavyweight division. Tafon tallied a thunderous second round head kick KO after a great performance against his most experienced opponent yet.
For Tafon’s UFC debut he will be dropping down to 185lbs for the first time in his career. Considering that ‘Da Don’ took an amateur bout mid 2017 where he weighed in at 262.6lbs, all things considered, he has made quite the weight loss transformation.
Tafon will be a fighter to keep an eye on while weighing in, as well as to see his explosiveness and raw punching power translate to a lighter weight class.
