ONE: Inside the Matrix’s Christian Lee — Featherweight Division Still Within Reach

Christian Lee put on an explosive performance at ONE Championship’s Inside the Matrix on Friday. Retaining his lightweight title in the process. Lee (14-3) exploded out of the gate, wound up in a grappling exchange with the previously undefeated Iuri Lapicus, then proceeded to put his opponent away via TKO.

Speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press in a virtual post-fight media session after the fight, which took place in Kallang, Singapore, Lee, who’s due to become a father for the first time, was eager to get back to work.

“Luckily I’m good to go. No broken bones, no injuries. I could fight tomorrow night if I had a fight booked. So I’m good to go. We’ll see,” said Lee, brother of ONE atomweight champ Angela Lee.

“I know there’s some big lightweight match-ups coming up in the near future, so I’ll be paying close attention to that,” he added. “And I’m looking forward to defending my belt again.”

While the lightweight belt is his, Christian Lee once challenged for another title, down a weight class. And that belt hasn’t left his mind either. There’s still a possibility that Lee could drop down, especially with a new champ, Thanh Le, crowned on Friday.

“Absolutely. The featherweight division is still within reach,” stated Lee. “It’s still something I could very well go for.” But, he added, “first thing’s first. I want to defend my belt one more time. The division’s not cleared out yet, so I’m not going anywhere until that’s done.”

As to who that title defense would likely be against, “it’s going to be a toss-up between Pieter Buist and Timofey Nastyukhin,” suggested Lee.
