UFC Vegas 10: Mike Rodriguez Believes Key to Beating “Tank-y” Ed Herman is Persistence

It’s a quick turnaround this weekend at UFC Vegas 10 for the fighter known as “Slow.”

Mike Rodriguez fought just weeks ago on August 22, defeating Marcin Prachnio UFC Vegas 7. Just three weeks later, he’s getting back in the cage for a short notice opportunity against veteran Ed Herman.

Speaking at the UFC Vegas 10 media day this week, Rodriguez explained that his quick return was simply because “the opportunity was there.”

“When opportunity knocks, open the door,” Rodriguez suggested. He’s opened the door, and offered that opportunity a seat. Plus, “it’s cool to fight against somebody with so much experience, because it helps me test my skills,” Rodriguez noted. Herman, after all, “has been through it all,” the Massachusetts native said. “It’s fun, it’s great.”

“Ed Herman, he’s good, he’s tough. He’s tank-y,” Rodriguez observed. Tank-y, you ask? “Durable,” he later clarified. In any event, Rodriguez understands that he’s unlikely to just blow Herman out of the water in the first round. “Guys like that, it doesn’t happen. I’ve gotta be smart. More persistent.”

“As long as I stay disciplined and stay persistent, I will get the win, for sure.”

UFC Vegas 10 takes place this Saturday, September 12 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card airs live on ESPN+ (TSN in Canada).
