Bellator 244: Yaroslav Amosov Started Fighting As a Hobby, Is Now 24-0

Uncasville, CT — Following Bellator 244 on Friday, Yaroslav Amosov remains undefeated.

The welterweight standout improved to an extremely impressive 24-0 with a TKO win over Mark Lemminger. The stoppage came due to a cut, with the doctor calling the fight.

“I’m sure I made some mistakes that I need to work on, but I won the fight, so overall as a fighter, you’re always happy,” Amosov said post-fight, speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press.

Amosov now holds wins over Lemminger, Gerald Harris, Caveman Rickels, former UFC star Erick Silva, and top prospect Ed Ruth. But despite all those impressive names, not to mention a win over KSW champ Roberto Soldic outside Bellator, Amosov found himself on the preliminary card at Bellator 244. A spot hardly befitting a 24-0 fighter.

“Initially I was offered Jon Fitch, I accepted, and the next day I flew from Ukraine to ATT to start training. Then for whatever reason, Fitch fell off,” Amosov explained Friday. “This was kind of short notice for Lemminger, so maybe that’s why it was moved to the prelims. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter to me where I fight. I have to prepare, I have to show up and I have to fight. The goal is to get to the belt.”

That’s all he’s focused on. When asked who he wants next, Amosov immediately responded “I don’t care. I want to fight whoever gets me closer to the title.”

He does want to show something as a fighter, however: that even an average Joe, or Yaroslav, can be great.

“You can just be an average guy, no matter what city you’re from, what country you’re from, you can get to the top,” he exclaimed. “I started this out as a hobby, I just wanted to learn how to fight for street fights. I turned pro, and things kind of went from there. In a way I’m blessed that my hobby turned into an occupation.”

“I’m going to continue to do it for as long as I can,” promised Amosov. Unless, he added, something else captures his interest.
