The UFC Fight Island 2 weigh-in Friday morning (western time, anyway) answered perhaps the biggest question heading into the event: would flyweight contender Deiveson Figueiredo make championship weight?

He’d failed to once before, eliminating himself from title eligibility at UFC Norfolk in February. The fact that he won, finishing Joseph Benavidez but leaving the 125lb title vacant in the process, necessitated the rematch that tops this weekend’s Fight Night card.

Ahead of the pair’s second meeting, however, Figueiredo tested positive for COVID-19, throwing another wrench in the works. It was eventually determined that he no longer had the disease and had only antibodies of the virus in his system. But that hiccup delayed his trip to Abu Dhabi for Saturday’s show, potentially complicating his weight cut in the process.

Still, come Friday, Figueiredo put those fears to rest, hitting championship weight for the first time in his UFC career. Back-up Alexander Pantoja will more than likely not be needed, barring any unforeseen complications. Instead, he will carry on with his scheduled fight against Askar Askarov.

In actual point of fact, the entire UFC Fight Island 2 card made weight Friday. And in an orderly fashion, the entire process wrapping up a little over 40 minutes into the two-hour window.
