The women’s flyweight division continues to roll right along. The latest booking, Maryna Moroz vs. Montana De La Rosa, which is expected to take place September 5.
The fight will be the second for Moroz (10-3) during the pandemic, as she fought on March 14 in Brasilia, Brazil, inside an empty arena. For De La Rosa (11-5), it will be her first time fighting in the UFC sans fans. She last appeared in February at UFC Rio Rancho.
MMA Junkie was first to report the booking, which was later confirmed by De La Rosa on social media.
The Ukrainian fighter has now won two straight, picking up wins over Sabina Mazo and Mayra Bueno Silva. With the UFC since 2015, she’s 5-3 overall, and holds a notable win over Joanne Calderwood at strawweight. Calderwood is likely to be the next challenger for 125lb champion Valentina Shevchenko.
De La Rosa earned a win over Mara Romero Borella in her last appearance inside the octagon. She’s 4-1 under the UFC banner, with her lone loss coming to former LFA champ Andrea “KGB” Lee.
The UFC’s September 5 date does not yet have an official event name or designation. However, a heavyweight match-up between Alistair Overeem and August Sakai is being targeted to serve as the show’s main event.
