The UFC’s August 1 card is looking to add some bantamweight action. The event, expected to take place in Las Vegas, now has Jonathan Martinez vs. Frankie Saenz lined up.

MMA Junkie was first to report the pairing. The event is one of five the promotion is expected to host at the UFC Apex at its home base in Nevada next month. No official name or numbering has been announced for the show.

Martinez (11-3) is 2-2 inside the octagon to date. He debuted back at UFC Moncton in 2018, coming in on short notice only to lose to Andre Soukhamthath. From there, he’d win his next two fights, against Wuliji Buren and Liu Pingyuan. His first fight of 2020 did not go as planned, however, as Martinez, from Plainview, Texas, lost a split decision to Andre Ewell at UFC 247 in Houston.

Frankie Saenz (13-6) had a two-fight win streak snapped in his last outing, when he fell to Marlon Vera via TKO at UFC Nashville. That was all the way back in March 2019, meaning he’ll have been out well over a year come August. Prior to that loss, however, Saenz had earned wins over Henry Briones, and current surging bantamweight Merab Dvalishvili.

The UFC’s August 1 event is expected to be headlined by Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana.
