The UFC is set to return to Saskatchewan, in what will be the promotion’s first Canadian stop of 2020. UFC Saskatoon is expected to take place June 20, 2020. MMA Fighting was first to report the news.
The event, expected to air on ESPN+, has not yet been officially announced by the promotion. However, it’s expected to be one of three trips the promotion will make to the Great White North this year, per UFC VP of International and Content David Shaw, speaking back at UFC Vancouver in September.
The UFC last visited Saskatoon in 2015, marking the promotion’s debut in the province of Saskatchewan. That card (UFC Fight Night 74) was topped by Max Holloway taking on Charles Oliveira, prior to Holloway claiming the featherweight championship. A small army of Canadians also featured on the card, including Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Valerie Letourneau, Patrick Cote, and Sam Stout. None of that foursome remain with the promotion, although others, such as Misha Cirkunov, could once again play a role.
UFC Saskatoon is expected to take place at the Sasktel Centre, which hosted the promotion for its 2015 stop. While no official announcement has been made, info is expected to trickle out over the next few days.
Last year’s schedule saw the promotion make stops in Ottawa, Edmonton, and Vancouver. With the octagon hitting Toronto roughly every two years, it’s once again likely to be in the conversation as host of one of the remaining dates, as is Montreal.
