With Fire & Fury, ONE Championship had Joshua Pacio set up for a big night at home. The Filipino champion, reigning over the strawweight division, was set to face Alex Silva in Manila, Philippines. And while he pulled off the win, it was a close one for Pacio, who found himself at risk of being submitted early by “Little Rock.” In the end, the pair went the distance, with the champion earning a split decision win to secure his second consecutive title defense.
Another local fan favorite didn’t fare quite as well on Friday. Eduard Folayang, the promotion’s former lightweight champion, also went the distance. However he wound up falling short against Dutch fighter Pieter Buist. Buist had stepped into the fight on short notice — but he also held a notable height advantage against Folayang, who struggled to make his way inside.
