UFC 245: Matt Brown Knows Where He Wants to Fight Next

With a successful return after two years out of the octagon, Matt Brown knows where he wants to fight next after UFC 245 — and that would be at home on the UFC Columbus card.

Las Vegas, NV — The Immortal Matt Brown is still rolling in the UFC. After a two-year absence from the octagon, Brown returned Saturday at UFC 245.

Retirement in the rear-view mirror, Brown stopped the rugged Ben Saunders in the second round of their welterweight contest. Improving to 22-16 in the process, the Ohio native proved he still has some gas left in the tank.

He also knows where he wants to fight next, Matt Brown told media outlets including Cageside Press backstage on Saturday, following his return win.

“I think I forgot what it felt like to be in there,” Brown quipped. “I wouldn’t say ring rust. Well maybe if it was ring rust, like two minutes of ring rust. A little bit of ‘what the hell’s going on in here?’ It’s crazy. It’s been a couple years. Once I shook that off, busted through it, and got the job done.”

As for his next outing, “I’d like to fight March 28 in Columbus,” Brown said. “That’s my home. I guess I won’t get the main event, but maybe co-main? Who knows.”

The main event slot is already filled, of course, going to Francis Ngannou vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik. After his performance at UFC 245, however, it’s hard to argue against Brown joining the card.

Opponent isn’t something Brown is worrying over. “I haven’t even thought about that. I don’t think about who I’m going to fight. The fight’s always against yourself, right?”

As for any long term plans, Brown is playing it by ear. “If I decide that I want to pursue a championship in this division, they’d better watch the hell out,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s what I want to pursue with my life right now — I want to take it one fight at a time, enjoy my life, enjoy my time with my kids — but if I decide to, I’m a serious threat to these sons of bitches.”
