Bryce Mitchell’s impressive twister on Matt Sayles earned him an extra $50,000 Saturday, making Mr. Mitchell’s trip to Washington well worth it.

Washington, D.C. — The least surprising news of the night came with the announcement of the post-fight bonuses at UFC on ESPN 7 (UFC DC). The Washington card saw plenty of action, plenty of finishes, and not one but two draws. But when it was time to hand out some extra cash, one person stood out above the rest: featherweight Bryce Mitchell.

Mitchell, now a perfect 12-0, pulled off just the second twister submission in UFC history. The sub came in the opening round of his fight against Matt Sayles, and added to the Ultimate Fighter alum’s take on the night, given he’d also be taking home a portion of Sayles’ purse after the latter missed weight. That, plus $50,000 for a Performance of the Night, should make for a green Christmas for Mitchell.

The other Performance of the Night award, not all that surprisingly, went to Makhmud Muradov, for his blistering third-round knockout of Trevor Smith. The Money Team fighter is now 2-0 in the promotion.

Fight of the Night honors went to Rob Font and Ricky Simon, for their three-round bantamweight battle. Ultimately, Font, the 10th ranked fighter at 135lbs, pulled off the unanimous decision win.

Attendance for UFC DC card at the Capital One Arena was 10,816 for a total gate of $932,593.20. The show was the UFC’s first visit to the American capital since 2011.
