Combate Americas has announced a championship doubleheader with both the featherweight and bantamweight titles on the line in Lake Tahoe on August 23.

Combate Americas has announced a championship doubleheader for Lake Tahoe, Nevada on August 23. The event, in conjunction with the MMA promotion Tuff-N-Uff, is set to crown an inaugural featherweight champion and a defense of their bantamweight championship at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena.

The featherweight championship will feature a rematch between last year’s Copa Combate winner Andres “Bullet” Quintana (18-2) as he takes on Argentina’s Bruno “Aquiles” Cannetti (8-6). The two were set to meet last week at an event in Quintana’s home state of New Mexico but a series of unfortunate circumstances led to the event being scrapped several days out. The two had a brief but memorable contest in the semifinals of the tournament last December where Quintana was dropped early by Cannetti before rallying back to get the first round TKO.

In bantamweight action, newly minted champion Gustavo Lopez (10-4-1) will be taking on Joey “El Cazador” Ruquet (7-1). Lopez claimed the title by stopping former champion José Alday last March and the fight Ruquet will be his first defense of the belt. A fellow veteran of the promotion, Ruquet most recently picked up a victory at bantamweight last April against Alan Cantú Garcia. The two fought once before in 2015 when Lopez stopped Ruquet via arm-triangle in the second round of Ruquet’s promotional debut.

Tickets for the event are on sale now. Additional bouts will be announced in the coming weeks.
