Combate Americas announced their next visit to Monterrey with a featherweight clash between Levy Marroquin and Alejandro Flores on April 12.

Combate Americas has announced that they will be returning to Monterrey, with a featherweight bout featuring Copa Combate winner Levy Marroquin taking on the durable Alejandro Flores on April 12.

Levy “El Negro” Marroquin (12-2) was poised to have a big 2018 after he won the inaugural Copa Combate, a one-night tournament, for the promotion as an alternate in 2017.  However, he was forced out of fights twice due to medical issues which included the opportunity to face José Alday for the bantamweight championship back in September.  Marroquin went back up to 145 and returned to action in November where he defeated promotional star José “Froggy” Estrada in an entertaining back-and-forth contest.  Marroquin remains one of the top fighters on the roster and a victory figures to set him up for a big match-up in his next outing.

One of the bouts that Marroquin pulled out of was with upcoming opponent Alejandro “El Gallito” Flores (15-2) back in April.  Flores had quietly become one of the top featherweights in the division and entered last years Copa Combate as one of the most experienced fighters in the bracket.  He reached the final but was stunned by Andres Quintana in the first round.  The match-up with Marroquin comes at a great time as the promotion has a heavy schedule set for 2019, and Flores could find himself headlining again with a victory.

In the co-main event, bantamweight stand-out John “Sexi Mexi” Castaneda makes his return for the first time in a year as he faces the experienced Marcelo “Pitbull” Rojo.  Castaneda had become the winningest fighter in the promotion back in 2017 and won a fight on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series the same year.  Castaneda makes his return after dropping back-to-back fights, to Marroquin in the Copa final and future bantamweight champion Alday, and the fight with Rojo is a chance to re-inject himself into the title picture.  Rojo is looking to make it three straight in the promotion after winning exciting bouts with Fabian Galvan and Jesse Strader in 2018.

The card will also feature the promotional debut of former BAMMA flyweight champion Daniel Barez (10-4) as he takes on Monterrey local Ivan Hernandez Flores (10-2-1).  Also announced, pro-wrestler turned mixed martial artist “Sexy Star” Dulce Maria Garcia will make her professional debut against Mariana Ruiz Avila at a catchweight of 118 pounds.

The card will be simulcast on Univision Deportes in Spanish and in English on DAZN.
