Sage Northcutt has an opponent, and time frame, set for his ONE Championship debut.

While it’s a little bit of a longer wait than expected, Sage Northcutt finally appears to have his ONE Championship debut set. And even his opponent. On Tuesday, at a ONE Championship press event in Los Angeles attended by multiple media outlets including Cageside Press, the lightweight star revealed that he’d be facing Cosmo Alexandre in Singapore this May.

Alexandre, like Northcutt, will be making his MMA debut for ONE Championship at the event, which has not yet been named. However, unlike Northcutt, he likely won’t have the same media attention. And he has worked with ONE in the past, having competed in kickboxing for them.

One of the youngest stars in the UFC over the last few years, Northcutt went 6-2 across eight fights with the promotion. However, the UFC opted not to re-sign the lightweight, ostensibly due to Dana White claiming Northcutt needed “some work.” More realistically, Northcutt’s price tag played a role. Whatever the reason, Northcutt subsequently signed with ONE Championship, and many expected him to debut in early 2019. May will have to do, however.

Northcutt (11-2) won his last three fights in the UFC, over Michel Quiñones, Thibault Gouti, and Zak Ottow. In fact, his only two losses came in excursions up to welterweight. Northcutt went a perfect 6-0 at lightweight in the UFC.

Cosmo Alexandre (7-1), a kickboxing veteran, will be returning to MMA for the first time since 2016 when he meets Sage Northcutt. After losing his pro debut at Bellator 52, he would go on to win seven straight bouts, including five under the Bellator MMA banner.
