UFC 229 Results: Scott Holtzman and Alan Patrick battled for the better part of three rounds, until Holtzman, who later said he’d broken both his hands, smashed his opponent with elbows to capture the win.

UFC 229 went down Saturday night from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The opening fight on the preliminary card saw a meeting of lightweights Scott Holtzman and Alan Patrick. Both men entered the night riding winning streaks with Holtzman picking up decisions over both Michael McBride, and his most recent win over Darrell Horcher at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega. Patrick’s current winning streak saw him win decisions over Damien Brown, Stevie Ray and his most recent over Damir Hadzovic at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Anders, that latter coming in Belem, Brazil.

The first two rounds saw both fighters exchanging. Patrick looked for the head kick and Holtzman was landing some big left hands. Patrick then started looking for the clinch and then the takedown after Holtzman landed a big head kick. He’d later take Patrick off his feet with a low leg kick.

Patrick closed out the round landing a kick of his own. The second saw Holtzman turn up the pressure, and we saw more of the same with the two exchanging and Holtzman getting the better of the stand-up. Still, Patrick held his own, and they’d head to a third and final round.

In round three, Holtzman came out moving forward with Patrick showing good side-to-side movement. Patrick dove in with a overhand punch that missed the mark. Patrick then jumped in again and Holtzman caught him with a right hand that dropped him! Holtzman pounced and dropped punches from the top. While Patrick defended well and briefly went looking for the armbar, it didn’t last. Holtzman escaped and maintained top control. He moved to mount, and dropped a number devastating elbows to end the fight.

Scott Holtzman def. Alan Patrick by knockout, Round 3, 3:42
