The ONE Championship men’s strawweight title found itself with a new owner at Conquest of Heroes over the weekend, with Filipino standout Joshua Pacio winning gold following a five-round war with Japan’s Yoshitaka Naito.
ONE Championship’s latest outing, Conquest of Heroes, went down Saturday in Jakarta, Indonesia. And in a main event rematch between Yoshitaka Naito and Joshua Pacio, the promotion’s strawweight title changed hands. A rematch of their 2016 meeting that saw Naito take the victory, the main event went the full five rounds — with Pacio earning the unanimous decision win to claim the title. Now on a four fight win streak, Pacio has an opportunity to do big things as champ, though a rubber match with Japan’s Naito is very much a possibility.
Also on the card, former featherweight champion Marat Gafurov suffered a shock knockout loss at the hands of Japanese newcomer Koyomi Matsushima. It was an impressive debut for Matsushima, a Pancrase veteran who improved to 9-3 with the win. Gafurov, meanwhile, suffered just the second loss of his professional career.
