Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero went the distance in an incredible barn burner at UFC 225. And despite no title being on the line, the pair fought as if the stakes were the highest possible.

The main event of UFC 225 at the United Center in Chicago, IL on Saturday will always remain a “what if?” scenario. What if Yoel Romero had made weight? What if he hadn’t drained himself in the process of trying to make championship weight for the 185lb title fight?

What if Romero had been forced to move up in weight following his previous blown weight cut for a title fight (for the interim belt at UFC 221)? What if someone else had fought Robert Whittaker on Saturday?

Yet none of that matters. Whittaker and Romero put on a barn burner of a fight, with the third round quite possibly up there for round of the year. It was an incredible five minute span that saw both fighters caught, the champ knocked down, only to battle back. It looked, to go back to a much-used simile, like a game of rock ’em, sock ’em robots. Only with humans instead of blocky toy robots.

Barn burner? They torched the entire farm, in that one round alone. Even their fellow pros were on the edge of their seats, as you can see from the responses below. In the end, Robert Whittaker would claim the split decision — but the end result barely mattered. It was the journey that did.
